The Security Event 2026: Where Security Is Getting Smarter

Last week, Paul Murphy, Co-Founder and Director at Intecho, headed to The Security Event 2026 at the NEC, Birmingham. It’s one of those events we make time for every year. Not just to see what’s new, but to stay close to how things are actually being applied in the real world. And this year, the conversations felt more grounded. Less about what’s possible, and more about what’s working.

It’s not about more tech, It’s about better connections…

A big theme throughout the event was how systems are coming together. CCTV, access control, intruder detection, all the things that used to sit separately are now being designed to work as one. Not bolted together as an afterthought, but properly integrated from the start.

Because when systems talk to each other, everything improves. You get better visibility, quicker responses, and far more meaningful insight into what’s happening. It’s a shift we’ve been seeing for a while, but it’s now very much the standard rather than the exception.

AI that actually helps…

AI was everywhere, but in a much more useful, practical way than we’ve seen before. The focus, particularly around CCTV, is on reducing ‘noise’, cutting out the false alarms, filtering the irrelevant alerts, and surfacing what matters.

It’s about adding context, highlighting anomalies and prioritising incidents so operators can focus on the right things at the right time. And importantly, it’s not about replacing people. It’s about supporting them to make better, faster decisions.

Faster decisions, smoother systems…

We also saw a lot of movement toward edge and hybrid/cloud setups. In simple terms, more is happening at device level. Cameras and systems are making decisions faster, without needing everything to run back to a central point. That means quicker responses, less strain on bandwidth, and a much smoother experience overall, especially when everything is connected into a wider system.

What this means for our clients…

For us, everything comes back to how this applies in super-prime residential. And here, the conversation is slightly different.

It’s not about how much technology you can add. It’s about how well it works and how it feels to live with.

We’re seeing more focus on:

  • Discreet, design-led systems that blend into the property.
  • Intelligent perimeter detection that works proactively.
  • Privacy-conscious setups that balance performance with responsibility.

In large homes and estates, it’s about confidence. Systems that are robust, secure and always working, without being intrusive or overcomplicated.

Why we go…

You can read about this stuff all day long, but it’s not quite the same. Being there means you see how things really work. You have proper conversations with the people behind the technology, and you quickly get a feel for what’s genuinely useful and what’s just noise and for us, that’s where the real value lies.

It helps us make better decisions, ask better questions, and ultimately design better systems for our clients. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about following trends, it’s about understanding what works and applying it properly!

If you’re planning a project and want a more considered approach to security, get in touch, we’d love to talk it through.
